What Is Thai Yoga Massage and How Does It Work?

Simply put, Thai Yoga Massage is a dynamic therapy that requires you to work with a trained therapist/masseur to release tension and energy in your body. It involves stretching positions that are similar to positions you use in regular yoga, but they are amplified and aided by a practitioner. Additional pressure is applied along the Sen Lines in the body as these positions are maintained.

What Are Sen Lines?

Many cultures have formal philosophies surrounding energy lines that span throughout your body. In traditional Thai medicine, they are called Sen Lines (similar to meridians, channels, nadis and chakras). Sen Lines begin and end at various orifices throughout the body, such as the mouth and ears, etc. When the energy along these Sen Lines gets blocked, your mental, emotional and physical health can all be affected. In that way, Sen Lines and Thai Yoga are similar to chakra balancing. Unlike your chakras which spin, Sen Lines operate very much like wires conducting energy throughout your body. When blockages form along these pathways, they need to be cleared. Both Thai Yoga Massage and chakra balancing operate on the belief that freeing the energy flow in your body leads to overall health and contentment.

How Does Thai Yoga Work?

Thai Yoga Massage is a blend of traditional yoga and Ayurveda. Although it incorporates many yoga positions, it is a passive massage that involves the therapist manipulating your body into various positions and stretching. While you are stretched, the therapist applies rhythmic pressure to your Sen Lines in order to remove blockages and to allow your energy system to flow unimpeded. It is important to wear loose clothing.

How Does Thai Yoga Relate to Other Forms of Energy Healing?

Thai Yoga Massage is a tool like any other in maintaining a balanced energy system. As mentioned earlier, chakra balancing is a commonly used practice to keep physical, emotional, and energy systems working together harmoniously. However, there are other forms of energy healing worth mentioning.
Emotional Freedom Technique is similar to Thai Yoga Massage in that it utilizes pressure points in order to facilitate an emotional release. Emotional Freedom Technique couples verbal affirmations with a practice called Tapping (firmly and rhythmically tapping your finger on acupressure points around the face and arms) to clear emotional blockages and to maintain a healthy energy system.

Energy Profiling has the benefit of enabling you to understand and to express your true nature. Without this knowledge, your energy can become blocked. Working with a trained professional allows you to hone your abilities, and to appreciate your specific energy type.

An increasingly popular method of energy healing lies in the Law of Attraction, well-known because of its role in The Secret book and DVD. The Law of Attraction is based on the belief that it is your feeling state that actually determines what you manifest in your life. Fear, for example, is a negative energy, and what you attract into your life will correspond to that negative tone. The Law of Attraction also features strongly in Joe Vitale's work.
